M.E. Lewis Elementary School to Sponsor Fundraising Activities to
Support New State-of-the- Art Playground

On Saturday, October 28, 2018, M.E. Lewis Elementary School had a booth at the 2018 Pine Tree Festival with the goal of raising funds and awareness of the #Play it Up Bullpups Campaign.  The goal of the campaign is to raise money for a playground for the students of M.E. Lewis Elementary School.  With the generous help and support of Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, the M.E. Lewis Playground Project raised $440 through donations and three ticket raffle drawings of items donated; an Emerson Digital Thermostat, a lunch for 2 at Gaby’s (the Ritz-Carlton’s Reynolds Lake Oconee lakeside restaurant), and a limited-edition Atlanta Braves Yeti Cooler.  Once again congratulations, to our three winners- Peggy Lewis, Mary Holsey, and Marben Bland.  Thank you once again to everyone that stopped by, said hello, donated, and enjoyed the Ritz Carlton hot chocolate.  A special thanks to Pre-K and Head Start for providing the tables and chairs on short notice.  M.E. Lewis Elementary School would also like to give a huge thank you to the Pine Tree Festival Committee for being so accommodating; it was a true team effort of the Hancock County School District and community working collaboratively to support this effort.

Currently, M.E. Lewis Elementary, the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds and Lake Oconee have collectively raised $13,340! The cost of this new, state-of-the-art playground is significant ($83,511.84), and the current plan is to complete it in three-phases as funding allows.  Phase 1 has a projected cost of roughly $26,000.  The current goal is to have Phase 1 of the playground fully funded and installed by the spring of 2019.  Additional Phases will be completed as the funding allows.  More fundraising efforts will soon be under way by the M.E. Lewis Elementary School students, parents, and teachers, beginning with the Pennies for a Playground Campaign, which encourages students to collect and bring in their spare change.
